This week, our dedicated team has gathered in Pretoria for the second phase of PDIA work with the Collaborative African Budget Initiative (CABRI). Over the course of the next few months, we will be collaborating with representatives from six additional African nations to address critical challenges in public financial management reform.

This endeavor marks another significant milestone in our ongoing journey to revolutionize development practices. For nearly a decade, we have been at the forefront of pioneering a novel approach to development known as problem-driven iterative adaptation (PDIA). At its core, PDIA empowers local agents to identify and tackle complex challenges within their communities, fostering a culture of innovation and resilience.

Our commitment to PDIA has led us to engage directly with over 50 teams across various sectors and regions, spanning both in-person and online interactions. Through these experiences, we have continuously refined our methodologies and processes, striving to develop practical and replicable strategies for driving meaningful change.

The essence of PDIA lies in its iterative nature – a relentless cycle of problem identification, experimentation, learning, and adaptation. This dynamic approach has yielded remarkable results, igniting a wave of transformation across the developing world. From public financial management to healthcare and education, PDIA has proven to be a powerful catalyst for progress.

Central to our engagement with CABRI is the implementation of the ‘PDIA Sandwich’ – a structured framework designed to guide teams through the iterative process of problem-solving. This approach involves a series of workshops, action periods, and reflection sessions, culminating in the sharing of results and insights.

As we embark on this next phase of our journey, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the ‘PDIA in Practice’ series. These notes will offer a glimpse into our past engagements, shedding light on the emergence of PDIA tools and methodologies. From Mozambique to Sri Lanka, each story serves as a testament to the transformative power of PDIA.

In the weeks to come, we will continue to unveil additional insights and resources, including a Dynamic PDIA Glossary and a comprehensive PDIA Toolkit. Our ultimate goal is to democratize management knowledge and empower individuals worldwide to drive sustainable change within their communities.

In closing, we extend our deepest gratitude to our partners, collaborators, and fellow practitioners who have contributed to this remarkable journey. Together, we are reshaping the landscape of development, one problem at a time.
